TROX TROX
High Induction Chilled Beams TROX'S New High Induction Chilled Beams cut energy use by half
Trox's new high induction chilled beam engine offers an induction rate twice that of conventional beams, and provides the ability to either double the cooling output of the beam or halve the primary air volume, which both saves energy and reduces the carbon footprint of the building.

TROX Technik, world leading air distribution engineers, have launched a 'new' high induction chilled beam engine, that offers an induction rate twice that of conventional beams.

Traditional chilled beams incorporate a beam engine containing downward-pointing nozzles that discharge primary air. In so doing, they induce secondary air into the unit which passes over the cooling/heating coils before mixing with the primary air and discharging into the space. These beam engines have a typical induction rate of about 4:1.

However with the new top discharge high induction beam engine from TROX, the primary air is discharged out horizontally through aerodynamically-shaped nozzles formed in the sheet metal of the beam. These precisely shaped holes are configured in such a way to optimise the airflow through the beam to double the induction rate to 8:1.

This development provides the ability to either double the output (cooling power) of the beam or halve the primary air volume, which both saves energy and reduces the carbon footprint of the building. This reduction in primary air volume also means smaller ducting can be installed, which offers both savings on material costs and greater flexibility of installation.

To form a complete Multi-Service Chilled Beam, the new high induction beam engine is fitted into a prefabricated, architecturally designed raft made from extruded aluminium which can contain all the mechanical and electrical components that would normally go into the ceiling including lighting, PA speakers, PIR detectors/smoke sensors, sprinkler systems and fire alarms as well as control valves/actuators and pipework.

In addition, because they are exposed, Multi-Service Chilled Beams also eliminate the need for suspended ceilings, allowing a building’s height to be reduced by up to 500mm on each floor in comparison to conventional cooling systems.

These features offer a range of benefits including a shorter production cycle, a more coordinated install, a higher quality finish, and better safety on site. Importantly, it also delivers program and cost certainty for the client.
Constant Volume Controller TROX Constant Volume Controller simplifies commissioning
Trox’s new VFC constant volume controller the can deliver a pre-set air volume irrespective of varying system pressure. The required air volume is set simply by adjusting the dial on the side of the unit.

A new volume flow controller type VFC has been developed by TROX that is a clever energy saving device and also has the benefit of being cost effective.

As a constant volume controller the VFC can deliver a pre-set air volume irrespective of varying system pressure. The required air volume is set simply by adjusting the dial on the side of the unit and can even be carried out after installation.

The VFC can be used to automatically commission systems and because of its sensitivity can be used on low air duct velocities down to 2m/s. This makes it ideal for all constant volume applications such as fresh air to fan coil units or automatic balancing of individual diffusers.

An actuator can be easily installed with “clip-on” technology converting the VFC into a variable air volume unit. Unlike other constant or variable volume devices it requires very little differential pressure (20Pa) to activate the damper mechanism.

The VFC controller has a high control accuracy, is available in three different configurations and six nominal sizes from 80mm – 250mm. A lip seal comes as standard on each end for a simple push fit airtight connection.
UNICAL UNICAL
Modulex & Supermodulex Condensing Boilers UNICAL Modulex & Supermodulex Condensing Boilers
Unical’s latest additions to its market leading range of condensing boilers are the Modulex and SuperModulex boilers.

This range of boilers offers outputs from 96kW to 894kW, and with up to a 1:39 modulation ratio and thermal efficiencies up to 109%, feature extremely efficient load tracking, all in a compact floor standing design.

Each Modulex boiler is composed of multiple self-contained heat generating modules of cast aluminium/magnesium/silicon alloy construction each with fitted with a special radiating, pre-mix burner with its own burner cascade manager (BCM) and safety thermostats. The BCM also features emergency operation capability in case of burner or controller failure.

The modules are managed by an advanced heating controller; the dedicated E8 heating controller, which permits the complete management of the heating system with local control of parameters and settings, and control of external pumps, sensors and valves. The principle of boiler operation is that the requested heating load is equally shared by each module, which guarantees a greater amount of transmitted energy and reduced emission of gasses and also takes into account each modules’ operating hours and evens out their usage. This complete management of the heating system, allows the maximum modulating output and the maximum obtainable condensing operation.

The Modulex range has several key benefits in terms of its installation & operation. With single point connections for gas, water, flue, drain and electrical, and no requirement for mounting rigs, this range reduces installation times in comparison with competitor’s wall hung condensing boilers. In combination with the primary ring kit comprising low loss header, modulating pump, and external safety devices, the Modulex range allows for better control of the water temperature during low load, thus maintaining maximum efficiency and condensing operation.
UNICAL Alkon Condensing Boilers UNICAL Alkon Condensing Boilers
The addition of the Alkon 70 wall hung condensing boiler means Unical have a modular condensing boiler product from 18kW through to 900kW.

Both the Alkon 50 & the Alkon 70 feature Unical’s patented compact heat exchanger, which as well as providing an elevated heat transfer, also ensures self-cleaning of the flue side. Thus, the following benefits are guaranteed:
  • Long lasting performance, thanks to the absence of lime scale
  • Extremely easy servicing
With modulation down to an output of only 8.8kW, the boiler is able to adjust itself to the required output to meet the system’s minimum loads, without making the burner fire/turn off excessively, dispersing energy uselessly and therefore maintaining a high seasonal efficiency.

The blue flame pre-mixed combustion transmits greater energy than that obtained with traditional combustion, and due to the practically total oxidization of the molecules of natural gas, the very low polluting emissions produced promote the ALKON boiler into the selective Class 5 Low NOx category (EN 483).

With a sophisticated controller in-built, the ability to cascade up to 8 boilers, purpose designed hydraulic connection kits, approved flue outlet systems, easy to mount frames and all the required safety devices, the fast installation of the complete circuit with a mixing header is easily achievable.

CLIVET CLIVET
4-Pipe Multifunction Heating And Cooling CLIVET 4-Pipe Multifunction Heating And Cooling
The request for buildings demanding simultaneous heating and cooling is growing. Clivet, already a forerunner in this field with several decentralized systems, offers a complete, packaged unit and more efficient solution to the traditional "four pipe" systems, with the following benefits:
  • Transferring energy where it is needed by allowing the recovery of energy otherwise dissipated.
  • Ensuring the highest efficiency at partial load to be certain of actually reducing global consumption on an annual basis.
  • Choose the best source of energy – the use of water as an exchange source allows the unit to be practically independent from external conditions, offering excellent performance during the entire functioning cycle. In addition, the system may use water available naturally, coming from wells, ground, river, lake or even the sea; fully considered as renewable sources.
The unique energy recovery technology on the hydraulic circuit reduces the complexity of adjustments on the refrigeration circuit by 90% compared to other "multi-use" units available on the market and featuring functional switching on the cooling circuit.

This permits:
  • Even more efficiency and reliability – overall increase of over 50%
  • Lower environmental impact through lower quantity of refrigerant
  • Increased operational safety with special patented devices to guarantee stability and fine adjustment
  • Reduced pumping consumption by automatic cutoff of inactive exchangers
  • Reduced buffering requirements by automatic adjustment of the capacity on the secondary circuit, based on the precise load request
  • Perfect use of the source - designed to work with an intermediate exchanger on the source side.
The above results in a system that is more reliable and less expensive both from a capital and operational viewpoint.
